Jazz in the Garden
Concert: Efrat Alony, Oliver Leicht, and Frank Wingold
"A Kit For Mending Thoughts"
24 August 2014
Concert as Part of the Cultural Summer Program 2014
Every pigeonhole is too small for Efrat Alony - crossing borders and balancing acts are what make Alony stand out from the crowd of jazz singers. In her new project, which simply bears her name, she now explores in particular the deepest depths of her voice, also playing all keyboard instruments herself. In trio with Oliver Leicht and Frank Wingold on clarinet and guitar, a whole new experimental dimension is opened up - "A Kit For Mending Thoughts"
Their music is as diverse as their biography - Alony was born as daughter to Iraqi immigrants in Haifa and grew up in Israel. It is there she began her studies in composition and singing that she continued in the US, and completed at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin. In 2009, Efrat Alony was appointed professor of jazz singing at the Bern Academy of Arts.
"The Israeli singer Efrat Alony confuses with voice, beauty, and intellect. (...) Her timbre seduces us good and proper - to listen." (Tom R. Schulz, Die Zeit)
