“My Verses Are Like Dynamite” Curt Bloch’s Underwater Cabaret

A Curator Tour for FRIENDS OF THE JMB

Curt Bloch fled Germany for the Netherlands in 1933. While hiding in Enschede and Borne from August 1943 to April 1945, a period of more than 19 months, he created a unique work of creative resistance: “Het Onderwater Cabaret.”

The work is now being presented to the public for the first time: An exhibition in the Eric F. Ross Gallery of the Jewish Museum Berlin (JMB) is showing all 95 original editions of the collection of booklets, as well as other writings penned while in hiding. We dive into Bloch’s work in this curator tour featuring the JMB’s archive director Aubrey Pomerance and co-curator Ulrike Kuschel.
