Hevrutah: Zerheilen – Healing to Pieces. An Invitation to Learn Together

Program Accompanying the Exhibition Frédéric Brenner – ZERHEILT: HEALED TO PIECES

At the center of the program accompanying Frédéric Brenner’s exhibition is the practice of “Hevrutah” (“friendship”), a gathering for the purpose of shared learning. We invite the exhibition’s cast and the public to come together over a text, to read it and discuss it. This collective learning does not follow a set program and does not lead to a conclusion; it is an end in itself. “Hevrutah: Zerheilen – Healing to Pieces” therefore becomes both the expression and representation of a Jewish practice that is also an open invitation for participation.

The accompanying program “Hevrutah: Zerheilen” consists of four evenings: three rounds of “Hevrutah” and an artist talk with Frédéric Brenner. The round table of the “Hevrutah” is not on a stage but in the middle of the room, surrounded by the visitors to the event. At the table, there are empty chairs for anyone who wishes to actively participate in the “Hevrutah.” The texts at the center of these concentric circles are chosen in consultation with the participants and made available to the public in advance. They provide a basis for the thematic discussion and a meeting point for the diverse biographies and disciplines of the panelists.
