My name is Christina von Braun. I’m a filmmaker and writer and was a co-founder and the founding director of the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg.
Where did the idea for your portrait’s staging and setting come from?
The photo of myself came out of a conversation I had with Frédéric.
How do you experience Jewish life in Berlin?
Jewish life in Berlin today is as diverse as the term “Jewish” itself. It encompasses religious (Orthodox, Conservative, Liberal) Judaism as well as secular, cultural, national (Israeli), and other definitions of Jewishness such as that of a community of memory.
Describe your life in Berlin in three adjectives.
Variable, incomplete, native.
What would your wish be for the future of Jewish life in Berlin?
For Jewish diversity (see above) to be perceived as an enrichment, not a flaw.
