Final Round for the School Band Competition "Make Your Own Music"
Witty word acrobatics, sensational sounds, and a rousing performance catapulted "Die Ohrbooten" into German pop heaven a few years ago. With "Gyp Hop" – a term they coined themselves to describe their laid-back mixture of reggae, ragga, hip hop, and jazz – they have played their way into the hearts of their young fans. On 27 October, "Die Ohrbooten" will rock the stage of the Glass Courtyard at the Jewish Museum Berlin. Admission is free. As a special highlight, the winners of the first school band competition at the Jewish Museum Berlin will play as the support act. School students of 13 upwards who compose their own music and lyrics can enter up until 22 September. The solo artists or bands are free to choose their theme and music style and can upload tracks to the Facebook page of the Jewish Museum Berlin and the Facebook community makes the selection. The winners are invited to Berlin to play and will be presented with a 500 € voucher for music equipment by the museum’s Friends’ Circle.

The concert will be the final chord of the "10th grade day", part of the anniversary week from 24 to 30 October celebrating the museum’s 10th anniversary. All day long, the museum is offering school students and teachers 60 free guided tours, workshops, and a film showing and discussion with the director Mo Asumang. Since it opened in 2001, over one million children and young people have visited the museum. Furthermore, around 35,000 young people have participated in the educational initiative "on.tour – The JMB Tours Schools" with which the museum has visited schools all over the country since 2007.
The 10th anniversary of opening will be celebrated from 24 to 30 October at the Jewish Museum Berlin. Information on the birthday week celebrations will be sent out in a separate mailing.
