Lars Bahners

Managing Director of the Jewish Museum Berlin

As from December 2022, Lars Bahners is Managing Director of the Jewish Museum Berlin Foundation (in German: Stiftung Jüdisches Museum Berlin). He previously held posi­tions in Berlin’s cultural adminis­tration as well as at various cultural insti­tutions including the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss, the Stiftung Stadt­museum Berlin and the Stiftung Deutsches Hygiene Museum.

Born in 1969 in Paderborn, Lars Bahners grew up in the Rhineland region. He studied law in Bonn, completing his legal trainee­ship and second state exam at the High Court of Berlin. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in cultural adminis­tration and management.

From 2002 to 2013, he worked in various capacities for the Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Branden­burg as well as for the foundation’s subsidiary service company Fridericus Service­gesellschaft. In 2013, Lars Bahners moved to Berlin’s cultural adminis­tration, where he initially served as team leader for the institu­tional advance­ment and primary affairs of Berlin's state-sponsored museums, libraries, archives and visual art insti­tutions. Subsequently, he headed the press and public relations. Starting in 2017, he worked as Managing Director of the Stiftung Deutsches Hygiene Museum in Dresden before moving on to the Stiftung Stadt­museum Berlin. Most recently, he served as Adminis­trative Head at the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss.

At the Jewish Museum Berlin, he is respon­sible for the overall manage­ment of the foundation, which includes the depart­ments of development, finance, legal service & procurement, and human resources.
