Lars Bahners
Managing Director of the Jewish Museum Berlin
As from December 2022, Lars Bahners is Managing Director of the Jewish Museum Berlin Foundation (in German: Stiftung Jüdisches Museum Berlin). He previously held positions in Berlin’s cultural administration as well as at various cultural institutions including the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss, the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin and the Stiftung Deutsches Hygiene Museum.
Born in 1969 in Paderborn, Lars Bahners grew up in the Rhineland region. He studied law in Bonn, completing his legal traineeship and second state exam at the High Court of Berlin. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in cultural administration and management.
From 2002 to 2013, he worked in various capacities for the Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg as well as for the foundation’s subsidiary service company Fridericus Servicegesellschaft. In 2013, Lars Bahners moved to Berlin’s cultural administration, where he initially served as team leader for the institutional advancement and primary affairs of Berlin's state-sponsored museums, libraries, archives and visual art institutions. Subsequently, he headed the press and public relations. Starting in 2017, he worked as Managing Director of the Stiftung Deutsches Hygiene Museum in Dresden before moving on to the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin. Most recently, he served as Administrative Head at the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss.
At the Jewish Museum Berlin, he is responsible for the overall management of the foundation, which includes the departments of development, finance, legal service & procurement, and human resources.
