April set the record for the brief history of this institution with over 80,000 visitors. The summer months of July (79,994) and August (73,483) were also very well attended.

As in previous years, two thirds (67%) of visitors were from abroad. Children and young people continued to be strongly represented with 19% of the total visitors, and tours and workshops were attended by 3,574 school classes. A total of 1.9 million children and young people have visited the Jewish Museum Berlin since it opened.

The museum visited 75 secondary schools last year with its mobile education program "on.tour - The Jewish Museum Berlin Tours Schools." In 2012, a further 8,500 school students learned about Jewish history, culture, and identity at the two mobile exhibitions and interactive workshops. "on.tour - The Jewish Museum Berlin Tours Schools" embarks upon its seventh year in 2013. Museum director W. Michael Blumenthal has set the goal "that every school student in Germany will pay one visit to the Jewish Museum Berlin before leaving school. If this is not easily possible, schools can apply to be visited by the mobile museum."

A highlight of 2012 was "INTONATIONS. The Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival" in April, for which all 2,300 tickets were sold. The six concerts under the direction of Elena Bashkirova were held for the first time in the Jewish Museum’s Glass Courtyard. The Jewish Museum Berlin will build on this success with another concert series from 20 to 25 April 2013.

Given its track record, museum director W. Michael Blumenthal says: "The Jewish Museum Berlin has unexpectedly quickly established its reputation as an important institution that is known and appreciated far beyond our national borders. This great visitor response confirms the value of our work. It was and still is right to maintain this unique museum concept and to develop it further."

November 2012 saw the inauguration of the academy located vis à vis the Jewish Museum Berlin, which will enable the museum to expand its thematic focus to include issues of migration, integration, and intercultural education in a heterogeneous society.
