"R.B. Kitaj (1932-2007) Obsessions"

Press Invitation to the Press Conference

Press Release, Thu 6 Sep 2012

On Thursday, 20 September the Jewish Museum Berlin will open the first comprehensive exhibition of the American artist R.B. Kitaj´s oeuvre since his death five years ago. The exhibition brings together loans of leading museums and private collections from around the world, including the MoMA in New York, the Tate in London and the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection in Madrid. One hundred thirty paintings, prints and drawings from all periods of his oeuvre are shown in 13 theme rooms. For the first time it was possible to include material from R.B.Kitaj´s personal archive, the "Yellow Studio" in Los Angeles. The artist´s bequest at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) holds important clues for the decryption of the multi-layered pictures, which to this day are considered both provocative and mysterious.
