Press Invitation
Press Release, Mon 6 Jun 2011
The Jewish Museum Berlin is proud to host the music festival "Sounds No Walls" from 23 to 26 June. "Jazz and Jewish Culture," the theme of the festival this year, goes hand in hand with the current special exhibition "Radical Jewish Culture." Founders of the avant-garde music movement in New York such as vocal performer Shelley Hirsch, guitarist Elliott Sharp, and clarinettist David Krakauer will play live in the Glass Courtyard at the Jewish Museum.

Under the artistic guidance of Bert Noglik the festival furthers the arc, presenting alongside not clearly classifiable artists such as the singer and percussionist David Moss protagonists from the current Israeli jazz scene: Avishai Cohen, Anat Fort und Zohar Fresco. The musical spectrum ranges from abstract sounds through the revival of klezmer traditions with freely improvised jazz, funk, and hip hop to Israeli-Oriental sound landscapes, bridging the gap between African American and Jewish pop culture to a new chamber music.
"Sounds No Walls 2011" is organized by Jazz Activities e.V. and sponsored by the Federal Agency for Civic Education. A cooperation with the Jewish Museum Berlin.
