Food awakens memories. Family recipes, passed down through generations or discovered anew, are part of our cultural heritage. At brunch at Café Lina, you'll embark on a culinary journey through time – beyond gold broiler and letscho: What was put on the table in the GDR, what may still be found on the family menu today? What did the grandparents cook? And what about the younger generation? Appetizers and main dishes will be served from 11 am. At 12 pm the third “course” will be served – a guided tour through the exhibition. Another Country shines a light on a little researched area of post-war German-Jewish history. It shares very personal stories of Jewish families in the GDR, stories that speak of emigration and return, hope and disappointment, socialist utopia and Judaism as it was lived. And there’s a tale of a small kosher butcher shop in Eberswalder Street.

If you’re hungry for more after all that, you can share your own experiences, memories and recipes over dessert in Café Lina!

Designed graphic with overlapping photos and red squares, the top photo shows a woman with a child holding her hand, next to her a teenager, in the background the so-called workers' palaces in Stalinallee.
