Arno Lustiger: "Rettungswiderstand"
Book Presentation with the Author and Joachim Gauck
Arno Lustiger has been rescued by others a number of times during his lifetime. The synthesis of the personal proximity of a Holocaust survivor and the scientific distance of a historian makes this book a powerful read. Lustiger not only describes the spectacular rescue stories, but also the long forgotten deeds of diplomats, Jews, and spiritual leaders among others, including the small, everyday offers of help. Following the reading, Joachim Gauck will talk to the author.

Asher Reich/SAID: "Das Haus, das uns bewohnt"
An Israeli-Iranian Discussion between Poets
Moderated by Shelly Kupferberg
Two poets point the way – trusting in the prophetic power of poetry. An Israeli and an Iranian author, Asher Reich and SAID, seek poetic discussion in 40 poems that provide each other with answers or mirror one another, that can be read as echos or interjections. "Das Haus, das uns bewohnt" is a joint book exploring cultures, languages, and religions at enmity with one another.

Morris Gleitzman: "Dann" (Then)
Book Presentation with the Author
Moderated by Uwe-Michael Gutzschhahn
Following his award-winning children’s book "Einmal," (First) Morris Gleitzman now presents the second book of his trilogy in German translation. "Einmal" describes the experiences of young Felix, who as the son of a Jewish bookseller is hidden in an orphanage as the Nazis invade Poland, while "Dann" is the story of his escape. In "Dann," Gleitzman skillfully succeeds in basing a fictive life story on historically proven facts.

Steve Sem-Sandberg: "Die Elenden von Lódz" (The wretched of Lodz)

Moderated by Tina Mendelsohn
n his novel about the Jewish ghetto in Lodz, Steve Sem-Sandberg examines the mechanisms of suppression, the point at which conforming becomes unbearable, also for a traitor like the powerful ghetto leader, the Jewish elder Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski. Sem-Sandberg portrays the ambivalent figure Rumkowski and leaves the ultimate moral judgment to the reader.

"NEIN! ELEVEN!"
Common Future Tower for religious understanding: Guest project at the Jewish Museum
Young Berliners from various religious communities are taking a stand for peaceful coexistence and against the abuse of religion: The "JUGA-Initiative" organizes a variety of activities around the 10th anniversary of the attacks on 11 September. On 20 August at Berlin main station, the group will erect a tower from around 200 boxes decorated by children and young people of different religions and world views with their wishes and hopes for a common future. The Jewish Museum Berlin – for which intercultural educational work has been a focus for many years – will show the four-meter-high "Common Future Tower" in the Eric F. Ross Gallery until 12 September.
