Morituri (1947/48)

A Film from the Artur Brauner Collection at Our Library

Towards the end of the Second World War, a group of concentration camp prisoners manages to escape with the help of a Polish physician. In a forest hideout, they encounter other persecuted people who have been holding out there for months. Food is scarce, but the Red Army is advancing.

The film is based on an idea by Artur Brauner and was CCC Film's second production after the comedy Herzkönig (King of Hearts). It was the first film by a German production company to employ concentration camp survivors as actors. Morituri premiered at the Venice Biennale, but was vehemently rejected by the German public.

Starring Walter Richter, Lotte Koch, and Klaus Kinski. Directed by Eugen York.
