The scene is Paris, 1980. The Paraguayan Ambassador is shot. While in custody, Max Baumstein tells his wife Lina the facts behind the crime: His father was murdered by Nazi thugs and he himself was taken in by a Mr. and Mrs. Wiener. Following the arrest of her husband, Elsa Wiener fled to Paris with the Jewish boy and worked in a dance hall. There she later met the Ambassador of Paraguay, who shamelessly exploited her fears about her husband.
