A Love in Germany (1983)

A stranger visits the village of Brombach, Germany, near the Swiss border in order to understand what happened there to his mother, Pauline, during the Second World War. In 1941, she was running her husband's shop while he served as a soldier at the front and she fell in love with the Polish forced laborer Stanislaw. The lovers were denounced, and the neighbors were complicit in Pauline's detainment and deportation and in Stanislaw's execution.

The star-studded film is based on the eponymous story by Rolf Hochhuth from 1978. A preview of the book containing original documents in the newspaper Die Zeit sparked debate about the Nazi past of Hans Filbinger, Premier of Baden-Wuerttemberg at that time, and triggered his resignation.
