Right-wing populist parties like the “Alternative for Germany” and movements such as the “Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the West” use the dislike of Muslims and their religion as fuel. But anti-Muslim sentiments are widespread in all strata and across the whole political spectrum – throughout Europe.

Exaggerated fear of Muslims, however, threatens to shake the foundations of what Europe should stand for, says the Islamic scholar and author Daniel Bax. He will discuss with the political scientist and extreme right expert Gideon Botsch the challenges in the current Islam debate, also in the context of flight and asylum.
